DR. 90210 FERRARI 458 ITALIA'S + VIDEO

It’s funny how many stories I can tell you that start off with the words “when I was a boy...” This happens to be one of those stories. So, when I was a boy growing up in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, sitting in the passenger seat of my mom’s Opel Monza on our way home back from school, I used to more often than not notice some of the most beautiful cars in the neighborhood sat parked outside the...

734HP GTS TUNED BMW M6

Growing up as a young child in the late 1980’s I used to worship the BMW M635CSI. There was one for sale at a car dealership not too far from where I used to stay. I used to make my dad stop there every time we drove past so I could get out and admire the car. It was long and sleek with sharp shark like lines giving the car loads of character. This one was black and it had diamond BBS wheels on, Recaro leather...

LEGENDS OF THE RISING SUN

This has to be one of the cooler things we’ve done in a long time. That is, put together three iconic Japanese sports cars for one shoot. Growing up playing Gran Turismo on a Playstation 1, it was always one of these three cars that I would choose to drive. With none of them being available in South Africa at the time, it was only in the virtual world where I could experience them. Fortunately for us now days, there have been a few...

DRIVING THE SNAKE: AC COBRA

A few months ago I was asked to drive around with the lucky winner of a Gordons competition who won an all expenses paid 7 day trip to Cape Town to do various amazing and exciting activities. Today was the chance to drive an AC Cobra on some of Cape Town’s most scenic roads. Three AC Cobra’s provided by Cape Cobra Hire were given to us. The main prize winner and his wife in the one, his brother in law and his wife in the second, while finally me and a videographer in the third...

DRIVEN: M44 E30 RALLY BMW + VIDEO

If you’re into local rallying at all, you would have certainly heard of the annual Fix-A-Smash All Tar Rally held at Killarney Raceway. It’s one of the most exciting events to watch, and even better to participate in. Even though I haven’t raced in it yet, I’ve heard from multiple people who have, and the unanimous conclusion is that it’s heaps of fun… and a car breaker of note!

SUPER CIVIC: THE FASTEST HONDA IN CAPE TOWN + VIDEO

R. A letter in the English alphabet which on its own doesn’t really mean much. Add that simple letter to the back of a car and viola, you immediately have something special. We’ve seen it on so many cars already from Nissan’s GTR, Audi and Porsche’s RS, Toyota’s RSi and notably Honda’s Type R. But up until about 10 years ago there weren’t any real Honda Type R’s for sale, besides the imports. South Africans were yet again deprived, like with so many other things the original Type R being one of them. Read more.

INTERVIEW: NURBURGRING DRIVING INSTRUCTOR ANTONY ASHLEY

We recently had the privilege to pick the brain of someone we all dream of being, someone who gets to drive some of the best cars in the world, on the best race track in the world, the Nurburgring in Germany. While most of us only get to experience this awesome track virtually in games like Gran Turismo, Antony Ashley does this daily as his job. Working for a company called RSR Nurburg, Antony is not only the manager but also a driving instructor. RSR Nurburg has an awesome fleet of cars which can be rented out for laps around the Ring... RISE OF AN EMPIRE: SPARTAN AUTOMOTIVES

So I've been noticing this new Automotive company who popped up on Facebook a few months back and as with anything new on the car scene I was very curious to check what they were all about. The company in question is called Spartan Automotives and they are based out in Strand. A local car manufacturer, wow! That's brilliant! We at Raceweb always love things local and lekker! The two particular vehicles that caught my... Read more.

DREAM DRIVE: MERCEDES-BENZ A45 AMG

When the name Mercedes Benz comes to my mind I naturally think of terms like status, luxury, refinement and German engineering, or even ones like uptight, snoot and old fart. And generally they are associated with the older folk from doctors and lawyers to rich business men. Sportiness was never really a word linked with the brand. But how things have changed over the last few years. Mercedes Benz have managed to rebrand themselves in the sports car market making some mental... Read more.

LIVING THE DREAM

This story should actually begin with "once upon a time". Way back when there were three brothers who were obsessed with Alfa Romeo’s. The Alfa Giulietta's they owned weren't any ordinary models. These three Giulietta's belonged in their own permanent car show. They were daily drivers which were also pristine show cars. When parked at racing events, they received the sort of attention only reserved for supercars. These beauties would constantly be... Read more.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF: TEAM 426 AT THE ALL TAR RALLY + VIDEO

WE DRIVE: OCEAN'S 7 LOTUS + VIDEO

As Colin Chapman once said: Simplify, then add lightness. He couldn’t have applied that theory better when he came up with the Lotus 7 as it is still considered the embodiment of the brand. Originally designed in 1957 it is one of the most successful models today due to its boy racer appeal. Caterham currently own the rights to the car but there are still plenty made all over the world in kit car form. Today I got to drive a fine example of one. Read more.

THE ART OF RACING

I probably know Mike Cook for the last 5 years or so from racing indoor karts together. We’ve raced many a battle on track before, and besides being an absolute gentleman in the true sense, he is extremely modest. But it was only recently that I found out about Mike’s hidden talents… with a paintbrush. Knowing I was in the motorsport industry and both of us having a passion for racing, coupled with my love for photography, specifically of cars, he mentioned he had... Read more.

I’ve driven many a 3 series BMW before, from the much sought after collector’s item 325is, M3’s be it e36, e92 and even the new F30 (non M3) model. But there’s one particular M3 that has eluded me, until now. The e46 M3. Sure I have sat shotgun in many, but not actually been behind the wheel, and with the CSL model being one of my all time favourite M3’s, the time had to come sooner or later. Opportunity presented itself to me when I had the chance to drive... Read more.

DRIFTING THE ROTA SILVIA S14 DRIFT MACHINE

It’s not often one gets handed the keys to a fully prepared drift car, let alone to specifically go sideways in it. Dylan Cothill is a brave man. We featured his fully imported S14 Silvia a few issues back before it had a full respray in black… I must say, I do prefer it in its new tuxedo. It’s a very stealthy look all in black, giving one the immediate impression it’s a weapon of some sort. Read more.

DREAM DRIVE: FERRARI 458 ITALIA + VIDEO

There are a lot of people who hate me right now. I don't blame them. But I don't think I should be blamed either. My dream drive came about rather unexpected. It was an early Thursday morning when I got a call saying stop everything I'm doing and be ready in 5 minutes to be picked up. Why I asked? I was told that my opinion was needed about a certain matter and that we were going to see a man about a horse. A red horse, a prancing horse, a 458 Italia horse! I was naturally dumbfounded but immediately grabbed all my camera gear and headed out the door. Read more.

I’ll give you my view on how it drives… in a bit. Read more.
