After
an intensive three days of tests and evaluations at the
Gerotek Vehicle Testing Facility, near Pretoria, South
Africa's Kelvin Van der Linde has earned selection to
the FIA Institute's 2013/14 Young Driver Excellence Academy.
Van der Linde, 17, won his place on the fully-funded Academy
programme after demonstrating his ability not just on

Here's
a short clip put together by Colleen Knox on how to do
a handbrake turn. She recently visited us at Stunt and
Rally School were Ernest gave her the run down on how
it all works. If you would like to learn this technique
for yourself and much more like drifting and stunts etc,

Action,
drama, glory! These are some of the things associated
with top notch motorsport and we got to experience it
all firsthand here. The images here were taken back in
2012 but were never published for some reason and with
Super Series coming up this weekend I thought it would
be a nice reminder of what to expect this coming Saturday.
We were allowed “backstage” at Team ADF Motorsport/Afrox
BMW and followed their developments during the Cape Town
leg at Killarney Raceway. We got an insider’s view
on what it takes to run with the big dogs in South Africa’s
premier motorsport class, Bridgestone Production cars.

Thanks
to the sound restrictions at my second home I have not
had to be up before 10am on a Sunday in ages. I think
because of this I was drawn to the prospect of any sort
of car enthusiasm type event and it seemed as if the Gods
made the sun rise with Vtec engaged. Everything felt right
in the world and to be honest I don’t believe anybody
thought that the SA record attempt would have been unobtainable.

IF
THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS ON RAILS, YOU ARE PROBABLY DRIVING
TOO SLOW... Posted:

Pic of the week: If
the car feels like it is on rails, you are probably driving
too slow...
Pic(ture)
of the week is a new addition to Raceweb and will
be published every Monday. It will feature random images that
we've snapped over the years with a motorsport saying attached
to it. This particular photo is from the Wheels

Drug
you say? Well yes, I can without a doubt say that participating
in any form of motorsport can be absolutely addictive.
For many petrol heads its our form of drug. It makes you
feel as if you want to do it all the time, and when you
get your fix, it only leaves you yearning for more! Just
like drugs, motorsport can be expensive too! So the easiest
and cheapest way of getting a 400m fix nowadays is racing
at Killarney’s Street 2 Strip events. It’s
the gateway drug of motorsport. Guys get into it informally
and for fun, and then suddenly end up getting more involved,
spending more money on their cars, wanting to make them
faster and lighter. [more]

Here
at Raceweb we always encourage people to take it to the
track. Especially in today’s times of rampant stupidity
levels and discreet Ghost Squad fleets prowling the streets.
But to a lot of people that process never really happens
for whatever reason. So when my buddy Nabeel decided to
take me up on my preaching, I thought it was high time
we did a story on the process of getting your ass off
the streets and getting it on the track. [more]
