Drug you say? Well yes,
I can without a doubt say that participating in any form of motorsport
can be absolutely addictive. For many petrol heads its our form
of drug. It makes you feel as if you want to do it all the time,
and when you get your fix, it only leaves you yearning for more!
Just like drugs, motorsport can be expensive too! So the easiest
and cheapest way of getting a 400m fix nowadays is racing at Killarney’s
Street 2 Strip events. It’s the gateway drug of motorsport.
Guys get into it informally and for fun, and then suddenly end
up getting more involved, spending more money on their cars, wanting
to make them faster and lighter.
The next thing you know they’re entering into pro events
and stepping up their game. That’s exactly what I like to
see. The transition of amateur into professional, and after being
in this game for 10 years, I’ve seen my fair share. From
hardcore street racers who now race in MSA sanctioned national
championships… who would have thought, yet they saw the
light.
Getting back to our gateway… Street 2 Strip is aimed at
getting the guys off the streets. And it’s doing a fine
job at that.
Though illegal street racing will never stop, Killarney has realized
the need to provide a safe and controlled environment for guys
to vent their frustrations. You can do this at least once a month.
So there’s ample time to get your car sorted for the next
race.
Some say once a month is not enough. I tend to agree, as you can
never get enough, but from a logistical point of view there’s
only so much Killarney can cater for at a time. Noise restrictions
and all.
These are random shots that I snapped from a previous Street 2
Strip event. Sorry if I didn’t get everyone, but that’s
just how it goes.
The point of this article is to tempt guys into getting their
cars on the strip. Call me a drag dealer if you must.
Every Street 2 Strip event is packed. The vibe is awesome, even
if you’re not racing. Ten to one you will always see someone
you know.
Smoking is dangerous…? How could this not be tempting? It’s
only R30 to race. That’s less than a pack of smokes now
days. At least here you can smoke without the risk of getting
lung cancer.
If you’re keen to check this out, whether it be to race
or just to spectate, there’s one happening tomorrow from
3pm to 7:30pm.
You’re guaranteed to see some awesome battles.
