The
2012 Renault Simola Hillclimb proved to be quite a weekend
for petrol heads as the little coastal town of Knysna opened
its doors to some of the finest automotive machines South
Africa has to offer. Exotics like Ferraris, Lamborghinis,
McLarens, Jaguars and Porsches were the order of the day
as usual, which proved to be very quick and so civilized
in attaining highly competitive speeds. However, the battle
for the crown came down to the more humble Nissans and Mitsubishis,
and it was unfortunate that 2011 champion Wilhelm Baard
could not compete on Sunday due to technical problems, since
he was spectacular on Saturday. By Taariq Samodien. Full

The
Super Series made its return to Killarney after 6 months
since its last appearance, and after the long and agonising
wait, the country’s biggest heroes wowed the fans
in The Bridgestone Production Car Championship. Jam packed
with stands filled to capacity, the Mother City came to
the track for a day at the races, and of course with this
being the Super Series, you could expect nothing less than
the very best in motorsport action.
EVENT:
WHEELS OF FURY 21
March 2012 | Pics by: Nish & RaceMasteR J | Killarney Raceway
Drift
Africa, in collaboration with Drift exhibition team D1S
and World-renown Japanese drift outfit Team Orange, recently
hit up Killarney Racetrack for Wheels of Fury to give Capetonians
some Human Rights Day racing action. This landmark event
featured some of South Africa’s top Drifters battling
it out for top honours. Wheels of Fury saw SA’s top
drifters being pitted against the super-talented Naoto Suenaga
of Team Orange, Japan…the Empires foremost and most
respected drifting outfit. Armed with Martin van Zummeren’s
Black Tracking Nissan Skyline R34, he was the ultimate draw
card for all to come out and witness it for themselves.
Last
year’s target of 150 was shattered when the official
numbers came in of 232 Honda’s. The benchmark was
set even higher this year, 300! When Team Mugen, the organisers
of this event, first thought of doing this, they wouldn’t
have dreamt of getting 300 Honda’s all in one place
at the same time. Well I’m happy to say they pulled
it off this year. The venue being Fairbridge Mall in Brackenfell,
they catered more for the northern suburbs guys but that
didn’t stop all the Honda’s around Cape Town
from rolling into Brackenfell. Correction, it’s not
all the Honda’s around Cape Town, there are way more!
So that leaves us to wonder what next year’s target
could be? 350? Or maybe 400? You never know... With the
growing success and popularity of this event it’s
guaranteed to be even bigger.
Known
for their great turn outs and beautiful selection of BMW’s
belonging to the club, the Exclusively M run is always something
to look forward to on the events calendar. Blessed with
amazing weather, all the guys needed was a good spacious
venue and a long open road on which to get there. The chosen
venue was the Orchid restaurant along the N2 just before
Grabouw in the Western Cape, and the road to get there,
the N2 highway with 100km’s of open road on which
to cruise with style.
