WEEK: AMERICAN (MUSCLE) CARS

I
hated American Muscle, wait, that's a strong word reserved
for VW's for me. Prior
to SEMA, I had a strong dislike for American Muscle. The
cars are big, bulky, noisy, heavy on fuel, fast in a straight
line only and can't turn to save their owners lives.

Days later at a crazy car show and I was in love. [more] |

WEEK: THE BABES OF SEMA

Having
been to many motor shows, including the Bangkok motor
show, we are no strangers to hot ladies in skimpy outfits,
springing into poses when they see a camera. But most
of us will just never get over it lol. I
have never heard any man say something like, "I have
had enough of these show girls". It just won't happen.
Unless he's saying it in front of his wife that is.

WEEK: JDM (JAPANESE CARS)

Japanese
Domestic Market (JDM) - my favourite three words in car
culture. Now before the purists start to fill the Racemaster's
inbox with hate mail, let me explain. When I say JDM,
it doesn't meant cars built in Japan, neither does it
doesn't mean cars built as most Japanese would - Mostly
function over form, it just means cars from Japanese origin,
OK!? [more] |

WEEK: 86'S

Being
a massive Toyota fan made searching for 86’s at
Sema only but a pleasure. The problem was that they were
like last year, all over the place. I don’t think
another vehicle at this year’s show was as well
represented once again. Nothing
was left to the imagination when it came to the possibilities
of this vehicle. Some
of this fast growing cult car were seen in just stylish
takkies heavily attracted to the earth, many others had
more time to put makeup on and then there were the monsters.

we managed to capture from this amazing event, one day

on this SEMA trip from the beginning which is the general
overview of the show. Enjoy...

THE SCENES WITH BE DRIVEN: DRIFT SHOOT + VIDEO

I’ve
watched thousands of car videos from short clips and series
to full length movies and documentaries and like me, I’m
sure you can relate to that. But it was only up until
recently when I was tasked to spearhead our own local
motoring show, Be Driven. Coming
from a web/editorial and mostly photographic background,
my knowledge of the car scene was vast but it needed to
be applied in a slightly different way this time, TV.

CIVIC: THE FASTEST HONDA IN CAPE TOWN + VIDEO

R.
A letter in the English alphabet which on its own doesn’t
really mean much. Add that simple letter to the back of
a car and viola, you immediately have something special.
We’ve seen it on so many cars already from Nissan’s
GTR, Audi and Porsche’s RS, Toyota’s RSi and
notably Honda’s Type R. But up until about 10 years
ago there weren’t any real Honda Type R’s
for sale, besides the imports. South Africans were yet
again deprived, like with so many other things the original
Type R being one of them.

STAR SAM DEJONGHE AT KILLARNEY ON SATURDAY
Posted:
03 September 2014 | Press release
|
With
top former European F3 driver Sam Dejonghe on a fleeting
visit to the Cape for just one race meeting, Saturday’s
Mutlu Batteries Classic Car events at Killarney could
be one of the highlights of the Power Series sponsored
by Wingfield Motors. The
young Belgium driver already had one F3 championship victory
to his name in the current season, when he decided on
a switch to sports car racing. He will be at the wheel
of Jan-Willem de la Porte’s specially prepared,
powerful Chev CanAm V8 this weekend and it is going to
be interesting to see how he performs against...

REGIONAL
RACE MEET 12 JULY 2014 - WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO
Posted:
10 July 2014 | Press release
|
Ernie
“Lightning“ Leite and Superbike star Ronald
Slamet are two northern suburbs competitors who are expected
to shoot the lights out during the fifth round of the
Wingfield Motors Power Series at Killarney on Saturday.
Anyone who braved the wintery conditions during the most
recent meeting will agree that In addition to the exciting
racing, the refreshing manner in which it emphasized the
talent of certain drivers who for various reasons are
often mechanically challenged and outclassed on a dry
surface – was another hugely positive feature. [more] |
