of the week is a new addition to Raceweb and will
be published every Monday. It will feature random images that
we've snapped over the years with a motorsport saying attached
to it. This particular photo is from the Hi Octane Festival
at Killarney back in 2012 when Johan Minnaar's Fiat X19 got
a bit more frisky off the line than usual. Click on the image

Howsit?!
Here's a story that makes me "Proudly South African"!
It's about a Capetonian who not only lives in Germany
now, but works and race's at the Nurbergring. And if you
think that's something, what if I told you that he just
won the VLN
race there this past weekend! Well done Antony Ashley!
We will be bringing you more info on Antony soon so keep
a look out for that, but in the meantime, here's some
info about Antony and how he got to P1 at the RING. [more]
"Racing, competing, it's in my blood. It's part of me,
it's part of my life; I have been doing it all my life and it
stands out above everything else." - Ayrton Senna.

Up
until recently I was searching the interweb for places
in South Africa that offered rally driving courses. I
managed to find one place but they were up in Pretoria
and I was even thinking about making a plan to go there
when I visited Gauteng again. The only thing Cape Town
had to offer was Fantastic Racing which is great but it’s
not what I was looking for at the time. All this changed
when my good buddy Ernest Page told me that he is opening
a Stunt and Rally School! Whoohoo! It was time to beat
around the bush... LiteRALLY![more]
Nishaam
Ebrahim aka Nish is a fellow photographer and writer here
at Raceweb and I’ve known him for years. Whenever
I go to his place I’m always in awe of one thing,
his model collection. My wife calls it toys, but I beg
to differ. His collection ranges from Japanese anime figurines
to Star Wars and even Lord of the Rings, but it’s
the car collection that always grabs my attention every
time. [more]
The
Auto Trader SupaDrift Series made a third and final stop
at the Dezzi Raceway in Port Shepstone on August 17th,
attracting the largest crowd to visit the track yet -
over 5,000 fans camped out for the day to watch SA’s
top drifters compete. Among them was Motorsport South
Africa’s CEO, Adrian Scholtz, who stopped by the
track to show his support for the world’s fastest
growing motorsport. [more]

Following
hot on the heels of the FIA Institute’s announcement
of the opening of nominations for the Africa regional
training and selection event of the Young Driver Excellence
Academy, MSA is proud to announce that Kelvin van der
Linde has secured MSA’s nomination to attend this
event. This
followed a rigorous application process in which 25 applicants,
between the ages of 17 and 23, were whittled down to a
shortlist of five from which Kelvin was ultimately selected.
The shortlisted drivers were interviewed by a panel which
included multiple former South African motor racing champion,
and ex-Formula One driver, Ian Scheckter.

Here's
a cool video done by Sumsaycool productions of the recently
held CPi Performance Cape Town breakfast run. Great cars,
awesome roads and spectacular scenery made for some good
footage. Enjoy.

Great
news is that South Africa will have its very own version
of this series and boy cant we wait! So far word is that
it’s set to take place around mid 2014 and officially
start in 2015. Yes we are also impatient, but the ball
has started to roll with the production of at least one,
so far that we know, concept/prototype Ford Focus V8 built
by Pace Innovation in Australia featuring all the latest
Australian V8 Touring Car technology.
