StreetFest (vol2) returns to Killarney Raceway on the public holiday (Human Rights Day) Friday 21st March.
The on-track action will kick off at 8am with MSA Drag racing, this is where the Cape’s fastest quarter mile experts will take each other on over 400 meters in this highly competitive event. This will be followed by Street2Strip for Streetcars from mid afternoon till 6pm. The oval side of the Killarney circuit will play host to the slidemasters of Cape Town, expect to see smoking tyres and crazy angles from these drivers. There will also be some spinners performing for the crowds as well as Streetcar Track Day sessions on the half main circuit during the course of the day.

Top competitors expected to impress will include Ralph Kumbier in his twin turbo powered v8 ChevFirenza, this highly impressive machine has managed an 8,6 second run at Killarney over the quarter mile. He is expected to be challenged by Willie Nel in his Chev Can-Am, Willie often doing sub 10 second runs now days. Other top contenders may include Eugene Wicomb (10 second Mikes Place Toyota Supra), Keith vdPoel (10 second “Bumble Bee” Chev Manta) and Michael Kayser (10 second Nissan bakkie). Bad Brad from Pro-Fit exhausts managed to run 10,9 seconds at the most recent Killarney event, lets see if Brad can improve on this time.

Will the motorcycles be able to stay quickest on the day with Ebbie Abrahams (9,036 second Kawasaki ZX14) as well as Ishmaeel Abrahams (9,555 second GSXR) and Justin Isaacs (9,790 second Honda CBR1000) leading the way.
The organisers are planning an action packed day and so this event will start slightly earlier than normal with MSA Drags running from 8am till about 3pm followed by Street2Strip till 6pm, the Street2Strip entries will however be limited to 150 entries only to give all drivers a fair chance to get some runs in on the day.

Off track action will see the return of the very successful “Cape Stance” show at the Killarney New Pit facility, this is kind of like a moving show & shine competition where one can expect to see slammed (dropped) cars and huge rims. The “AutopunksSoundoff” promises to be highly entertaining where bass will be the order of the day. There will also be added entertainment in the form of local music artists such as “Youngster”, “DJ Willy”, “Lu Wayne Wonder”, “DJ Codax” and many more.

There will also be bar facilities, product displays & exhibits, a food court supported by Ola ice-cream, kiddies entertainment and plenty more for the whole family. Gates open at 7am, with action on the track from 8am till 6pm. Tickets cost R60pp, under 16 R40 and under 12 get in free.

Killarney will then play host to the second round of the National Super Series on Saturday 29th March. This exciting motoracing event includes the countries top motorsport racers competing in SA Sport and GT’s, Production cars, Single seaters, Polo cup plus regional Superbikes and Clubmans.

KILLARNEY STREET2STRIP INFO:

Entries from +-3pm, limited to the first 150 entries only. On track from +-3pm till 6pm.
So if you or anyone you know has ever wanted to put their streetcar onto the Killarney main straight this is the perfect opportunity.

Want to know more:
• Entries (main gate caravan – times above) – show SA Drivers license and complete required paperwork / indemnity. R100 entry fee includes access for the driver to get into the facility.
• Vehicle check (go around Turn 5 and turn right into back of scrutineering building) – all wheel bolts required, battery must be fastened down properly and everything must be in general good working order. Required safety gear include long pants & top, closed shoes and SABS approved type crash helmet.
• NOTE: Always drive slowly on the access roads and circuit while not participating.
• Vehicles that have run quicker than a 13 second run are not permitted at Street2Strip events for safety reasons.
No excessively loud vehicles allowed at all. The organizers will be conducting sound tests and reserve the right to stop further participation if, in the organizers sole opinion, your car is excessively loud.

.................................................................

The idea of the Street2Strip events is to provide the facility at a nominal fee to street racers who are racing in and around Cape Town. As there will be no formal competition and this is aimed purely at the Street racers, no competition license will be required however indemnities will have to be completed. The timing lights will be in place however there will be no results posted nor prizes awarded at the end of the evening.

This event is aimed specifically at the streetcar street racers with RSA driver’s licenses. So with that in mind there will be no motorcycles on the evening, no interruptions from the Club drag competitors, just a queue of streetcars wanting to take one another on down the strip. We plan to have many more of these types of events in future, however to ensure we can do so, and comply with noise pollution laws, we will not allow any vehicle even moderately too loud to participate. This includes some drifting practice at the oval side of the circuit when approved to run. So if you have an after-market exhaust, don’t worry unless it is very noisy. Straight through exhaust will have a problem so please do be aware of the situation.

(Please note that rain could cause the event to be delayed, cancelled or postponed. Unfortunately there are no refunds and right of admission is reserved. Times could also change as the organizers see fit to do so if required.)
